What is SoGEA business broadband?

SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. is a newish Openreach product which enables providers like Raw to order old Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) products without a traditional business phone line.

Many businesses currently use WLR (Wholesale Line Rental) to connect to Openreach’s infrastructure and then add broadband as an additional service on top.

Traditional analogue voice calls are being phased out from the Openreach network by 2025 in favour of an all IP service and VoIP Phone services mean that there is no need to offer and maintain separate analogue business phone lines which should then reduce costs and improve customer experience.

Customers will be able to use VoIP providers such as Raw and easily move and swap services.

What are the benefits of SoGEA Business Broadband?

End users won’t notice any major differences with SoGEA business broadband, but it has will be a big change for the telecoms industry since the introduction of affordable, high-speed Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services.

Install times will half compared to current lead times

Support will also be simpler as there are no voice services attached to SoGEA

As voice access is not available with SoGEA, it’s important to remember if you want a voice service, you’ll need to use a VoIP Phone provider like Raw.
